Opening of Redeveloped Bishop Lucey Park

The official reopening of Bishop Lucey Park took place on 14 November 2025, representing a significant milestone in the ongoing regeneration of Cork city centre, with Cumnor Construction delivering the landmark redevelopment on behalf of Cork City Council.

Officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Fergal Dennehy, the transformed park now offers a more open and welcoming civic space, reconnecting South Main Street with the River Lee and enhancing accessibility throughout the area.

The project carefully balances heritage and contemporary design. Key historic features — including sections of the medieval city walls and the former Christchurch graveyard — have been preserved and enhanced, while new elements such as a pavilion building, improved landscaping, upgraded lighting, and high-quality public realm finishes create a vibrant space for relaxation, performance and community gathering.

A new pedestrian and cycle bridge linking Lambley’s Lane to Wandesford Quay further strengthens connectivity and supports active travel in the city centre.

As main contractor, Cumnor Construction worked closely with Cork City Council, Hall McKnight Architects and the wider design team to deliver this complex urban project to the highest standards. The reopening of Bishop Lucey Park stands as a lasting investment in Cork’s public realm and a valuable amenity for residents and visitors alike.
