Cumnor Construction Celebrates Opening of Munster Rugby Cork Centre of Excellence

Cumnor Construction is proud to have been the main contractor for the new Munster Rugby Cork Centre of Excellence, officially opened by An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin TD at Virgin Media Park in Cork on 4 October 2025.

The €7.3 million state-of-the-art facility represents one of Munster Rugby’s most significant capital projects, second only to the redevelopment of Thomond Park, and is designed to benefit players, clubs, schools and the wider community across the province.

The Centre of Excellence features a world-class indoor rugby dome with a 50 × 40 m training pitch, a 2,500 sq ft high-performance gym, plus changing rooms, physio spaces and support facilities to enhance both grassroots and elite development pathways.

An Taoiseach Micheál Martin spoke at the opening about the importance of sustained investment in sport and community infrastructure, highlighting how the new facility supports both grassroots participation and high-performance programmes in Irish rugby.

Representatives from Munster Rugby, the IRFU, local government and sporting bodies joined the Taoiseach at the ceremony. Cumnor Construction was delighted to celebrate the project’s successful delivery with our partners and stakeholders and to see this major contribution to Cork’s sporting landscape come to life.
